If you get your TV service through Virgin Media, you may soon be eligible for a free upgrade to its latest V6 set-top box. There’s usually a £20 activation fee to upgrade, but going forward, the box will be available to all customers with a TV and broadband bundle.
The V6 box is 50% smaller and 10x more powerful than the previous TiVo box. It allows recording of up to six programmes at once, and supports 4K content.
Currently, one in four Virgin TV subscribers have the V6 box, and the company plans to have the majority of its TV customers using the latest box by the end of the year. If you’re eligible for a free upgrade, Virgin will be contacting you in the next few weeks to provide details on how to request your new box. Virgin anticipates that the majority of upgrades won’t require an engineer visit and will be a simple case of unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one.
